Veronica becomes a vampire in new Archie comic

Archie Comics

Posted on

As Riverdale viewers know, Archie Andrews and friends get up to more wild adventures these days than just talking high school gossip over a milkshake at Pop’s. But even as the kids get involved with grisly murders and gang violence on screen, their comic book counterparts are also facing down strange stories of their own. Sabrina the Teenage Witch is part of the Archie Comics universe, after all, and some Archie comics lean more into horror and magic. One past series, for instance, turned Jughead into a werewolf. The newest iteration finds Veronica turned into a vampire, resulting in the beautiful portmanteau title Vampironica.

Written by the brother-sister duo of Greg and Megan Smallwood, Vampironica is a new ongoing series from Archie Comics that finds Veronica transformed into a vampire after getting bitten at a party. As she struggles between sating her bloodlust and trying to find a solution to the undead hordes now plaguing Riverdale, Veronica will get to show off unfamiliar sides of her personality.

“Veronica’s character has always had this brevity to her, you always know where she’s coming from — usually a place of selfishness or vanity,” Megan Smallwood tells EW. “As a fan, I’m used to her playing opposite to Betty’s good naturedness but Vampironica will be a little different in that aspect. The story and supporting cast is seen through Veronica’s perspective and that lends itself well to building more complex aspects of her personality.”

The first issue of Vampironica hits stores March 14. Check out an exclusive preview below.
