V.E. Schwab, the best-selling author of the Shades of Magic series (A Darker Shade of Magic, A Gathering of Shadows, and A Conjuring of Light), has signed a million-dollar deal with publisher Tor Books, EW can announce exclusively.

The deal comprises a brand-new trilogy called the Threads of Power, which will be set in the same world as the Shades of Magic series, as well as a fourth, separate book starring a female assassin in a future version of New York City.

“I am over the moon,” Schwab tells EW. “Tor’s dedication has been unwavering, and, alongside my formidable editor, I can’t wait to introduce new leads, explore uncharted ground, and revisit old friends.”

With this new deal, Schwab’s partnership with Tor and her editor Miriam Weinberg will extend until at least 2024. “[Victoria] is the kind of author an editor dreams of finding,” Weinberg tells EW. “She’s a brilliant writer with the imagination to match, and the courage to push herself further with every book. I can’t wait to dive back into her fictional worlds.”

Next up for Schwab at Tor is Vengeful (out Sept. 2018), the sequel to her first adult novel Vicious, and The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue, which the publisher describes as “a story about a girl who makes a Faustian bargain to live forever, only to be forgotten by everyone she meets.”
