What could be a more purr-fect pairing than the cat who hates Mondays, and the cat who hates… everything?
As announced on Friday, Garfield and Grumpy Cat will join forces for the first time as part of a limited comic series, featuring an original story written by none other than Garfield creator Jim Davis himself.
“Teaming up with Garfield for a comic series is a real honor,” said Grumpy Cat in a press release (presumably via translated meows). “I hate it.”
The team-up is the result of an exclusive partnership between Dynamite Entertainment and KaBOOM! (an imprint of BOOM! Studios). Dynamite is currently the publisher of The Misadventures of Grumpy Cat, which follows the adventures of the popular feline, as well as her brother Pokey.
“We’ve had tremendous success bringing Grumpy to our fans,” said Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite in a statement. “Meeting Mr. Davis has been a highlight of my career and working with him and our friends Ross, Filip, and everyone at Boom! Studios to bring her into the world of Jim Davis’ beloved comic strip is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. These are the two most famous felines in the world. I can’t wait to see what trouble these two get into!”
Ross Richie, founder and CEO of BOOM! Studios expressed similar sentiments: “Jim Davis approached us years ago asking us to publish the Garfield comic books and it’s been a tremendous honor to work with one of the greatest cartoonists of all time and the entire team at PAWS… When I met with him at San Diego Comic-Con International this year to discuss this crossover, he was brimming with delight at the idea of these two felines getting together. His enthusiasm and affection for this crossover is infectious! This is going to be terrific fun!”
The Grumpy Cat and Garfield crossover will be released summer 2017.
