You do not mess with the women of Monterey.

HBO’s Big Little Lies took home the Golden Globe for Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television at Sunday’s ceremony. Based on the best-selling novel by Liane Moriarty, Big Little Lies stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgard, and Zoe Kravitz. The show’s first season followed three mothers — played by Witherspoon, Kidman, and Woodley — as they navigated the complicated relationships at the center of their secret-filled community.

The show, which was recently renewed for season 2, dominated the television categories with six Golden Globe nominations, including acting wins for Kidman, Dern, and Skarsgard.

“This show is so much about the life we present to the world that could be very different than the life we live behind closed doors,” Witherspoon, who was also a producer, said while accepting the award. “I want to thank everyone broke their silence this year and spoke up about abuse and harassment: You are so brave. And hopefully, shows like this, more will be made, so people out there who are feeling silenced by harassment, discrimination, abuse… Time is up. We hear you. We see you. And we will tell your stories.”

Executive producer David E. Kelley was the first to take the stage to accept the award and noted that working on the series “has been a real joy” before thanking director Jean-Marc Vallée. Finally, he concluded, “Take a look at this cast, but two, in particular, are also ferocious producers: Nicole and Reese.”

Big Little Lies beat out fellow nominees Fargo, Feud: Bette and Joan, The Sinner, and Top of the Lake: China Girl.
