Hey mama, welcome (back) to the ’60s! Ricki Lake is ushering in Hairspray Live! with an adorable throwback to her turn as Tracy Turnblad.
Lake, who played young Tracy in the 1988 John Waters film, took to Twitter Wednesday to share a throwback photo with costar Divine, who played Tracy’s mother Edna. “Who’s going to be watching #hairspraylive tonight?” she wrote. “A Polaroid from the original #hairspray w/ moi & @DivineOfficial.”
Lake is set to make a cameo in NBC’s live rendition of the show, which airs Wednesday night, during the “Welcome to the ’60s” beauty salon scene, which is run by Sean Hayes. Rounding out the rest of the new cast is newcomer Maddie Baillio as the peppy Tracy; Harvey Fierstein and Martin Short as Tracy’s parents, Edna and Wilbur Turnblad; Jennifer Hudson as Motormouth Maybelle; Ariana Grande as Tracy’s best friend Penny Pingleton; Ephraim Skyes as Seaweed; Garrett Clayton as Link Larkin; Kristin Chenoweth as Velma von Tussle; Dove Cameron as Amber von Tussle; and Derek Hough as Corny Collins. Billy Eichner, Sean Hayes, Andrea Martin, and Rosie O’Donnell also star. Additional surprise guests are set to appear in the show.
Hairspray Live! premieres, tonight, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
