Over the past few years, nearly every Marvel superhero has been transformed into an adorable Funko figurine. The table has been set, in other words, for a new series of animated shorts pitting the Funko versions of Marvel characters against each other.
The first of this series, “Spellbound,” features Funko Loki facing off against Funko Iron Man and Funko Spider-Man. Funko Loki uses his mind-controlling scepter to set Spider-Man against his friend, before the tables are turned and Loki ends up brainwashed into acting like a cow (a possible homage to the original Skrull invasion in Marvel comics, when Mr. Fantastic defeated the shapeshifting aliens by trapping them in cow form).
Other shorts in the series include “Bait N Switch,” which features Rocket breaking into the Collector’s museum to free Groot, and “Chimichangas,” which features a battle between Deadpool and Venom. Both of those shorts will premiere in December.
“We are beyond excited to bring our Pop! Vinyl to life by collaborating with Marvel,” Mark Robben, Funko’s director of marketing, said in a statement. “We hope fans enjoy these short films as much as they do collecting Pop!, and hopefully we’ll be able to create many more.”
The Marvel Funko animated shorts were created by A Large Evil Corporation and executive produced by Brian Mariotti, Dan Buckley, Cort Lane, Joe Quesada, and Alan Fine.
