Gilmore Girls: Jared Padalecki remembers Edward Herrmann

Posted on

Jared Padalecki, like many of his fellow cast members, had an emotional return to Gilmore Girls. “When I showed up to shoot my scene and it was Stars Hollow again, it was a really, really powerful moment,” he says in a clip from the new episode of EW Reunites: Gilmore Girls on the PEOPLE/Entertainment Weekly Network (PEN).

Also emotional is looking back on one of his favorite moments throughout the beloved series. “It’s difficult for me to pinpoint one moment,” explains Padalecki, who played Rory’s first boyfriend, Dean. “If I were to try to, it was actually a scene with Ed Herrmann.” Herrmann starred as Rory’s grandfather and patriarch to the Gilmore family, and died on Dec. 31, 2014

“We were standing outside, I think it was Rose’s mechanic shop,” he continues. (Rose Abdoo played local mechanic Gypsy.) “We’re sitting there and he’s like, ‘How tall are you?’ I’m like, ‘How tall are you?’ I say, ‘How tall are you?’ But I remember, whatever it was about that night, it was a beautiful night. It was chilly, but you were awake. I had just moved to LA within the year, I’m shooting with this actor that I’ve had utmost respect for and been a fan of for years, when I was in middle school in Texas.”

He adds, “I kind of sat there and went like, ‘I’m living my dream. This is it. When I dared to dream, I dreamt about this and here I am,’ and there were many moments like that, but that sticks out to me.”
