Rogue One TV spot highlights Jyn and Cassian's friendship

More ‘Star Wars’ news to come today …

“I’m not used to people sticking around when things go bad.”

“This is a first for me.”

A new TV spot for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story highlights a very specific Rebel alliance – the bond between Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso and Diego Luna’s Captain Cassian Andor.

The pair are the central figures in an elite commando unit being assembled to capture the construction plans for the Empire’s first Death Star, a mission that also sets off all the action of the original 1977 movie.

This brief video draws a connection between the characters’ lone-wolf pasts: Andor is a veteran spy for the rising rebellion, and his closest companion is K-2SO, an enemy security droid he rescue and reprogramed. Erso is an orphan since childhood, living on the rougher edge of the galaxy after the disappearance of her scientist father, whose work was vital to the building of the superweapon.

We don’t yet know the depth or direction of their partnership. Are they a band of brother and sister? Is there a romantic spark? Or are they two mistrustful souls who finally find a friend they can count on.

What we can tell from this is: it hasn’t been easy.

And that hand grasp…? At least now they aren’t in it alone anymore.

There is more to come. Check back to EW.com for more Rogue One news later today…
