Just when you thought Emma Stone couldn’t get more relatable, she proves in Monday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show that the stars really are just like us.
Stone stopped by to tout her latest film, La La Land, and in the process, got real with DeGeneres about the benefits of working with frequent co-star Ryan Gosling — and the drawbacks to being a particularly sweaty person. “It makes it very easy when you know someone,” she said of her three-time co-star. “To learn [to ballroom dance] with someone you don’t know must be terrifying. But with him, I was just sweating all over him and felt fine about it. I sweat a lot.”
When DeGeneres pushed for more, Stone revealed that her incessant sweating habit is a new problem, and that she’ll break out into a “horrible” sweat “after about a minute of any type of physical exertion.” Being the good sport she is, Stone barely objected to the newest nickname bestowed upon her by DeGeneres: Emma ‘Sweaty’ Stone.
Something else that’s sure to get those sweat glands going? Her upcoming gig as the host of Saturday Night Live. Stone is set to host the sketch show for the third time on Dec. 3, and recalled how the first time she met creator and producer Lorne Michaels, she could barely contain her emotion. “It was fine, just in the sense that I cried. A lot,” she said. “If I’m ever surprised by meeting someone that I’ve held up to a hero status, I tend to cry. We were in an elevator together in 30 Rock, and I saw him, and I… just turned away and kind of cried in the corner. I don’t know if he knows that. Now I’m a sweaty crier.”
