Goonies sequel: Star Martha Plimpton say it's unlikely

Score one for the Fratellis. The Goonies might not ride again, according to one member.

Martha Plimpton did a Reddit AMA on Tuesday to discuss The Real O’Neals, the ABC sitcom she stars in. One fan pleaded to know about the prospects of a sequel to the 1985 adventure. Plimpton, who played the tough Stef, couldn’t relay good news.

“I wish I had an answer for you, but I can tell you that I really wouldn’t expect it. It’s been teased for decades and I don’t think it’s going to happen,” she replied. “At least, as far as I know. I think [director] Dick Donner, who is a brilliantly funny man, likes to torture us all with the prospect. I believe it’s his revenge for having been tortured by all of us for 6 months in 1984.”

Donner and fellow Goonie Sean Astin have both believed a sequel could happen; Astin expressed optimism as recently as September 2015 and even had an idea of what would happen (think middle-age Goonies, with possibly their kids involved).
