The night before premiering a star-studded, profanity-filled music video urging Americans to vote against Donald Trump, and a week after performing live at EW PopFest, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom stopped by New York City’s Feinstein’s/54 Below venue to discuss, and perform a few songs from, her hit show.
Bloom was joined by the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend executive music producer Adam Schlesinger for a discussion about the show and its music, moderated by Seth Rudetsky.
In addition to watching back through (and sharing stories about) numbers from season 1 and the opening episodes of season 2 — including the Lemonade-inspired “Love Kernels” — Bloom also previewed a Marilyn Monroe/Gentlemen Prefer Blondes-type number about the love triangle Rebecca (Bloom) finds herself in with Josh (Vincent Rodriguez III) and Greg (Santino Fontana) that will air during Friday night’s episode.
Bloom and Schlesinger also opened and capped off the evening with a trio of performances. The Golden Globe-winner began by singing Rebecca’s season 1 ballad “You Stupid Bitch” as the audience laughed and cheered (and sang along, at her encouragement). And for a grand finale, Bloom first climbed onto the piano to sing season 2’s “We Should Definitely Not Have Sex Right Now” (with Schlesinger doing Josh’s vocals) and then kicked off her shoes and returned to season 1’s songbook for “I’m a Good Person.”
You can watch all three hilarious, NSFW-language-containing videos above and below. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
