SPOILER ALERT: Read on only if you have already watched Wednesday’s episode of Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X.
Well, that was awkward. Michaela has been about as fierce a competitor as Survivor has ever seen, and she unleashed every ounce of that ferocity after a blindside knocked her out of the game.
Once the Ikabula tribe lost the immunity challenge, a plan was formed among the Millennials to vote out Gen Xer (and phony baloney funeral director) Bret. But then Jay — after seeing how strong Michaela was in both challenges and strategy — decided that now was the time to take out the person he saw as the biggest threat in the game. The fireworks began after Michaela received her third vote at Tribal Council. “WHAT?!?” she shrieked, and immediately turned back to look at Jay. “Did you do that?”
After a moment of deciding what the hell to say or do, Jay finally responded: “Yeah, I did. Sorry.” (Clearly fearing for her life, a confused Hannah then added, “I did not do that.”) The staredown and silence then continued until host Jeff Probst finally read the last vote, sealing Michaela’s fate.
And then the cursing started. “Damn, Jay. You just f—ed up.” And then more staring. And more confusion and hyperventilating from Hannah. In between telling Jay he was “gonna feel like an a–hole” and that he “f—ed up something good,” Michaela tried to leave, realized she forgot her shoes, then had to awkwardly return back to retrieve them.
It was a chaotic, confrontational scene that no doubt both enthralled and upset viewers as they enjoyed one of the most dramatic Tribal Council moments ever, but at the expense of the season’s biggest fan favorite. (An informal poll of Survivor fans at EW’s PopFest revealed Michaela as the number one favorite, followed by Ken and Zeke.)
