Val Chmerkovskiy seldom needs hankies in the ballroom — but the Ukrainian-American pro had plenty of tears to shed for his partner Laurie Hernandez on tonight’s Dancing with the Stars.
While rehearsing the Viennese waltz for the Halloween episode, Chmerkovskiy got choked up wanting to help Hernandez do her best at this point in the competition.
“It’s crazy how fast life moves,” a weepy Chmerkovskiy said. “Laurie brings the joy in everything. I don’t want to blow it for her.”
“Don’t be upsetty, eat some spaghetti,” replied Hernandez (who had to be as surprised by Chmerkovskiy’s tears as we were).
At least he put all that emotion to good use. Dancing to “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the pair earned a perfect 30 from the judges.
“That was a truly magical Halloween treat,” said judge Bruno Tonioli. “It was sweet, tender … the lyricism of your movements, it was a Viennese wonder waltz.”
