It feels like it’s been 300 years right down to the day since a virgin lit the Black Flame Candle and summoned the Sanderson sisters in Hocus Pocus. But, now the witch is back: Bette Midler, who starred as Winifred Sanderson in the beloved film, has returned to her witchy persona for a truly magical Halloween costume.
Midler posed for photographers as Winifred at her star-studded Hulaween Bash in New York City on Friday night. “Winifred Sanderson flies in to Hulaween,” the actress tweeted. “Says thanks to everyone who made it such an electrifying evening!!”
Kathy Griffin, Marc Jacobs, and David Rockwell were among the celebrity guests, but Midler stole the spotlight again when she posed next to a guest dressed as Donald Trump holding a basket filled with Barbie dolls and Tic Tacs.
This isn’t the first time Midler put on her Winifred wig and dress since starring in the 1993 the film. During her Divine Intervention tour stop in Arizona last year, she hit the stage for a rendition of “I Put a Spell on You” from Hocus Pocus.
There’s been a lot of talk and no movement of getting a sequel to the film off the ground, but the cast has kept hope alive — whatever hope still remains.
Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Sarah Sanderson, said on Watch What Happens Live earlier this month, “I would love that. I think we’ve all been fairly vocal about being very keen but that hasn’t created any groundswell of movement.”
