JoJo has churned out a slew of impressive covers over the years, but her take on Selena might be her most emotional.

The pop singer played in Corpus Christi, Texas on Monday, the hometown of the late Latin pop star. JoJo was moved by visiting the honorary statue for Selena and wanted to pay homage.

“I had the pleasure of seeing the Selena statue, paying respect, and I’m just reminded of the amazing, amazing contribution she made to music, and how her spirit is still with us today,” she said, via Billboard. “I just wanted to pay homage and do ‘Dreaming of You’ tonight. I hope I do it justice.”

JoJo was backed by only an acoustic guitar, as she ran through the 1995 hit; the crowd loudly and enthusiastically sang along.

Selena was killed March 31, 1995 in Corpus Christi by former friend and employee Yolanda Saldívar. “Dreaming of You” appeared on the posthumous album of the same name.
