Man With a Plan has a disappointing retro plot that fails to connect

Posted on

The Bingeworthy hosts have spoken about Matt LeBlanc’s Man With a Plan, and it isn’t pretty.

During the latest episode of Bingeworthy, the new series from the People/Entertainment Weekly Network, hosts Jessica Shaw (EW Radio on SiriusXM) and Touré (MSNBC’s The Cycle) agreed the Friends alum’s new CBS sitcom isn’t worth a binge or even a second look.

“You said despise. I need a word deeper than that because I hate it more than you do!” said Touré. LeBlanc plays a goofy father navigating family life, which as the hosts point out, feels like a retread of his Joey Tribbiani days but without the solid humor. The only bright light for Shaw was Liza Snyder, who plays “a thankless role” as LeBlanc’s wife.

In one moment on the series, LeBlanc comes across a man that tries to wipe dirt off his face, which both hosts point out causes the character to “recoil like, ‘Oh no, a man is touching me.’” For a series set in modern day, it seems to pull away from showing the new social norms. “How can I be disgustingly sexist and homophobic in 22 minutes?” said Shaw of the series.
