Frank & Lola trailer: Michael Shannon falls for a femme fatale in Matthew Ross film

Posted on

Michael Shannon tackled his first ever romantic lead role in Matthew Ross’ directorial debut, Frank & Lola, and EW has an exclusive first look at the film’s new trailer.

Set in Las Vegas and Paris, the psychosexual noir follows an up-and-coming chef, Frank (Shannon), and an aspiring fashion designer, Lola (Imogen Poots), who cross paths at seminal periods in their respective lives. As a mysterious figure from Lola’s secret past resurfaces in the midst of their affair, Frank begins to question his trust in his own judgment and his loyalties to the woman he loves.

Frank & Lola debuted at Sundance in January, earning positive reviews from movie critics before screening at international film festivals in  San Francisco, Seattle, and Melbourne. The film’s supporting cast includes Justin Long, Rosanna Arquette, Emmanuelle Devos, and Michael Nyqvist.

Shannon stars in two other films hitting theaters this fall. Opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, he appears as a quirky detective in Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals in addition to his small part as real-life photographer Grey Villet in Jeff Nichols’ Loving.

Frank & Lola will have a limited theatrical release via Paladin on Dec. 9, the same day Universal Pictures Home Entertainment debuts the film on digital HD and on demand. Watch the film’s trailer above, and check out its poster below.
