The Crown trailer: Queen Elizabeth II torn between family, duty

It’s not easy being queen of a nation recovering from war and an empire in decline.

The latest trailer for Netflix’s The Crown previews the strain that the monarchy will place on Queen Elizabeth’s (Claire Foy) relationship with her family. It will test the strength of her marriage to Philip (Matt Smith) and the bond between her and her sister Margaret (Vanessa Kirby), whose romance with Peter Townsend is rather controversial.

“It is my duty to refuse Margaret marriage to a divorced man, and yet I will be breaking a promise not only to my sister but also to my late father,” says Elizabeth in the clip.

Created by Peter Morgan, The Crown tells the life story of Queen Elizabeth II and each season is expected to chronicle close to a decade of her life. It also stars John Lithgow as Winston Churchill, Victoria Hamtilon as Queen Mother, and Jared Harris as King George VI.

The Crown premieres Nov. 4 on Netflix.
