Speechless is Marty McFlying into its first-ever Halloween episode.
The surprise ABC hit — about the outspoken, overprotective matriarch (Minnie Driver) of a teenager with cerebral palsy (Micah Fowler) — is fall’s boldest, best new sitcom, and it’s not shying away from embracing the spookiest season by dressing up its cast in one truly genius Halloween costume for the Oct. 26 episode.
EW has a sneak peek at the group ensemble: a tribute to Back to the Future, which involves high schooler J.J. transforming his wheelchair into the famous time-traveling DeLorean DMC-12 from the 1985 film. (The gag all but guarantees someone making a joke about not needing roads.)
The rest of the DiMeo family also gets in on the group costume, with Driver’s mother Maya taking on the Lea Thompson role, patriarch Jimmy (John Ross Bowie) channeling crazy Doc Brown, and beleaguered rebel Ray (Mason Cook) dressing up as every teen’s dream, Crispin Glover.
The episode “H-A-L—HALLOWEEN” finds Ray recruiting sister Dylan (Kyla Kenedy) to assist with the school’s haunted house, and aide Kenneth (Cedric Yarbrough) accidentally letting J.J. get drunk at a party.
Speechless airs Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
