Mary J. Blige may have sang “No More Drama,” but she didn’t say anything about gossip. And there are few better places for that than a hair salon.
That’s where we see the nine-time Grammy winner in a sneak peek of her guest appearance on Thursday’s episode of How to Get Away with Murder. While doing Annalise’s (Viola Davis) hair, she and the other ladies chat it up with the scandal-embroiled lawyer. Oblivious to her professional problems — i.e., that little situation with her law license getting suspended — they offer Annalise some champagne, which she declines. She’s trying to cut back on her drinking, after all, since geniusly (and perhaps legitimately) claiming she’s an alcoholic in order to avoid being fired from her teaching position at the university.
Their conversation turns to Annalise’s on-again-off-again friend with benefits, officer Nate. “What’s wrong, you finally screw up with the cop?” Blige asks, referring to Annalise’s sour mood.
That gets the attention of her colleague: “Does that mean you’re done with him? … Y’all know my radar perks up when the conversation turns to a fine ass sexy man.”
Blige’s HTGAWM appearance comes after her stint in the season 1 finale of black-ish last May, as well as her starring role as Evillene in NBC’s The Wiz Live! special in December. She will also appear in director Dee Rees’ Mudbound, scheduled for a 2017 release.
