Allison Janney and John Benjamin Hickey are about to be changed for good in a Broadway revival of Six Degrees of Separation, it was announced Tuesday.
John Guare’s acclaimed play is about a young black con man, Paul, who charms his way into the house of wealthy white New Yorkers Ouisa and Flan Kittredge (Janney and Hickey). Paul claims that he’s a friend of their son and needs help after being mugged. He convinces them that he is the son of Sidney Poitier. By the time Ouisa and Flan figure Paul out, he has changed their lives in unexpected ways.
The 1990 play is based on a true story, and was adapted into a 1993 film starring Will Smith.
Trip Cullman will direct the limited production, which will open in April 2017 and run for 15 weeks. Further casting and dates will be announced soon.
