The Simpsons will hit the 600-episode milestone on Sunday night with its annual “Treehouse of Horror” installment, and the episode will be notable for another reason, too: The return of Frank Grimes.
The star of season 8’s “Homer’s Enemy,” who met his maker by gripping high-voltage cables while mocking Homer for his gross incompetence at the Nuclear Power plant, Grimes will speak his first lines in nearly 20 years at the beginning of this episode. (He has been seen or referenced a few times since his death, and we’ve met his son, Frank Grimes, Jr.) One of the animated comedy’s most famous one-episode characters, Grimey will be making only a cameo appearance in the episode — he’ll reappear in the form of a ghost — but he’ll pack a lot of Homer hate into his limited screen time, teaming up with Sideshow Bob and a few other characters with one common goal in mind.
“They’re forming a sinister squadron of Simpsons enemies to try to kill the Simpsons,” executive producer Al Jean told EW. “If that doesn’t make people tune in, I don’t know what else we can say.”
