Emma Stone doesn’t let a bloody mess keep her from a legend.

In a new interview with Vogue, Stone recalls the time she played backup tambourine for Prince while nursing a bloodied foot. Back in February 2015, Stone was celebrating Saturday Night Live‘s 40th anniversary special at the show’s official afterparty at the Plaza Hotel. She took off her shoes to dance because, as she explains, “I am one of those people who dance at parties.”

Her barefoot boogie was cut short, however, when she stepped in broken glass, which was then embedded in her heel.

“I walked off and was bleeding all over the place,” Stone tells Vogue. “[Someone] grabbed a knife and took the glass out of my foot. I swear to God. And then 60 seconds later, one of the SNL people was like, ‘Prince is onstage. Do you want to go on and play the tambourine?'”

When the opportunity came for Stone to party with Prince like it was 1999, she obliged, joining Maya Rudolph, Jimmy Fallon, Martin Short, and the Haim sisters. Not too shabby a gig for someone who probably should have been in the ER.
