Spike Lee has found the lead for his upcoming Netflix series. DeWanda Wise (Shots Fired) is joining Lee’s new show, She’s Gotta Have It, as Nola Darling, EW confirms.

The 10-episode series — a contemporary update of Lee’s 1986 debut film of the same name, which featured Tracy Camilla Johns in the lead role — follows Brooklyn based artist Nola (Wise) as she navigates her late 20s. While struggling to define herself, Nola will also have to find a way to divide her time between her friends, her job, and her three lovers. Hamilton‘s Anthony Ramos was cast to play “b-boy sneakerhead” Mars Blackmon, one of Nola’s three suitors; casting has yet to be announced for her other suitors, including “protective investment banker” Jamie Overstreet and “cultured model” Greer Childs.

The Chi-Raq filmmaker will direct each episode and executive produce alongside his wife Tonya Lewis Lee, whom Lee credits with having the initial idea to turn his movie into a series.
