There’s little argument that 2008’s Liv Tyler-starring home invasion movie The Strangers is one of the most unnerving movies of the past decade. Now, the writer and director of that film, Bryan Bertino, has a new terror tale, called The Monster, which is being released in time for Halloween.
In the movie, a divorced mother (Zoe Kazan) and her headstrong daughter (Ella Ballentine) make an emergency late-night road trip to see the girl’s father. Driving through deserted country roads, they have a startling collision that leaves them shaken but not seriously hurt. Their car, however, is dead, and as they try in vain to get help, they come to realize they are not alone on these desolate backroads. An evil is lurking in the surrounding woods, one intent on never letting them leave.
The Monster, also featuring Tyler’s Strangers costar Scott Speedman, is currently, and exclusively, available to watch on DirecTV. It arrives in cinemas Nov. 11.
