EW has learned an announcement is imminent regarding the future of Billy Bush at NBC, in light of leaked video of him and Donald Trump making lewd comments about women back in 2005.
Several outlets have already reported that Bush is negotiating his exit from Today. After he was suspended Sunday, the 44-year-old host hasn’t been back to the NBC studios and was temporarily replaced today by The Voice host Carson Daly. Bush’s possible ouster could be helped by the fact that he only recently joined the news program.
“He isn’t really a part of the Today show family yet,” a source told CNN’s Brian Stelter. His image has apparently been removed already from Today billboards.
As part of the settlement, it’s possible that NBC could include incentives that encourage Bush to keep a low profile for at least six months so the story can blow over. “That’s the smart way to deal with it,” opines one business affairs exec from a competing network.
In the meantime, Page Six reported that Bush apparently boasted about the tape’s existence while covering the Olympics in Rio this summer. If that was the case, then it throws into question recent reports that NBC and Access Hollywood only recently uncovered the outtakes from Trump’s visit to the Days of Our Lives set in 2005. At the very least, Bush should have alerted his new bosses about the tape’s existence before starting his gig at Today — something that could have hastened his ouster if proven true.
