When Jesse Spencer sat down to fill us in on the upcoming fifth season of Chicago Fire, we were expecting a few teases. But we weren’t expecting a steamy storyline quite like this one.
“There’s a storyline with Mouch and Brett in which they sort of discover that someone’s blogging online, like writing these sort of, almost like trashy romance novels which sounds like it’s — I mean, someone from 51 must be writing them ’cause there’s too many references,” Spencer says. “So they set out to find out who this person is.”
For Spencer’s character, Matt Casey, the new season will bring big challenges in his personal life as he and his fiancée, Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund), try to balance work and parenthood.
“We’ll be adjusting to having a family. You know, now they have a child, an adopted child, so they’re going to have to figure out how to make that work. The idea that they’re both in a dangerous profession with a child and both on the same truck is just not going to fly,” he says. “There’s going to be an adjustment period.”
Season 5 of Chicago Fire premieres Tuesday at 10 p.m. on NBC.
