Emily Mortimer is officially a member of the Banks family.
The actress has joined the cast of Disney’s upcoming sequel Mary Poppins Returns, EW has learned.
Mortimer will play Jane Banks, who was one of the children looked after by Mary Poppins in the original 1964 film. Her brother, Michael Banks, is set to be played by Ben Whishaw.
The film, set in Depression-era London, will follow the now grown-up siblings as they are visited once again by their practically perfect nanny following a personal loss. Emily Blunt stars as Poppins, and the cast also includes Lin-Manuel Miranda, who will play a lamplighter named Jack.
Mary Poppins Returns is being directed by Rob Marshall (Into the Woods). It will also feature a screenplay by David Magee, based on The Mary Poppins Stories by P.L. Travers, and Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are writing the film’s all-new original songs.
Mary Poppins Returns will arrive in theaters on Dec. 25, 2018.
Variety first reported the news of Mortimer’s involvement.
