Seth Meyers didn’t have much to say about the vice presidential debate on Tuesday’s episode of Late Night (“Tim…Crane? Carney?”). He did, however, note that the bar was pretty low for Republican nominee Mike Pence, given how his running mate Donald Trump had performed in his own debate with Hillary Clinton the week before.

“The keys for Pence tonight were simple: Appeal to swing voters, hold his own on policy, and do not take advice from his running mate,” Meyers said. “Because not only was Trump’s debate performance last Monday disastrous, he spent an entire week talking about it. He’s like a kid who wets the bed at a sleepover, and a week later is still going, ‘I’m telling you, I spilled my juice box.'”

Over the weekend, Trump and campaign surrogates like Rudy Giuliani tried to change the narrative by focusing on other subjects, including Bill and Hillary Clinton’s marriage. When pushed on the topic by CNN’s Jake Tapper, Giuliani responded by saying, “That’s your opinion.” It all reminded Meyers of Jeff Bridges’ The Dude from The Big Lebowski, who is known for saying, “That’s just, like, your opinion, man.”

Meyers thought a different Big Lebowski quote was more relevant to this election, however: John Goodman’s Walter yelling at Steve Buscemi’s character, “Shut the f— up, Donny.”

“That’s right, Donny,” Meyers said as an image of Trump appeared beside him. “You heard us, Donny.”
