Rachel McAdams is in talks to join Rachel Weisz in the upcoming film Disobedience, EW has confirmed.

Disobedience is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman. The story follows a Ronit (Weisz) who visits her Orthodox Jewish family after the death of her estranged father. While there, she reignites a forbidden love affair with her childhood best friend Esti (McAdams), who is now married to Ronit’s cousin. The relationship upsets the conservative Orthodox Jewish community.

The film will be directed by Sebastian Lelio and co-written by Lelio and Rebecca Lenkiewicz. Production is expected to start in the first quarter of 2017. 

Weisz has been seen most recently in the dramas Denial and The Light Between Oceans, while McAdams has Doctor Strange coming to theaters next month.
