Following news that Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in Paris, many celebrities offered their support on social media. But fashion designer and creative director of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, had a different opinion, claiming the reality star is “too public” when showing off her wealth.
“We have to see in what time we live. You cannot display your wealth then be surprised that some people want to share it,” he told the Associated Press.
Lagerfeld also questioned why Kardashian was without security at the time of the incident in the first place.
“I don’t understand why she was in a hotel with no security,” he said. “If you are that famous and you put all your jewelry on [social media], you go to hotels where nobody can come near to the room.”
Lagerfeld’s comments come after stars like Chrissy Teigen and James Corden chastised those who mocked the incident. “People making jokes about @KimKardashian tonight would do well to remember that she’s a mother,a daughter,a wife,a friend.Be nice or shut up,” Corden wrote.
According to PEOPLE, five armed men wearing ski masks entered the hotel at around 3 a.m. on Monday and threatened the concierge before they made their way to Kardashian’s room.
