Monday night’s first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump was watched by a record 84 million viewers, but that didn’t stop Trump from trying to spin the results in his favor the next day. After recapping the debate with a live show on Monday, Seth Meyers took A Closer Look at the fallout on Tuesday.
“Based on the expectations his own supporters helped set, all Trump had to do was be a normal person and he would’ve been declared the winner,” Meyers said. “And yet he still managed to lose. Even Fox News had to glumly admit that he lost.”
After mocking excuses for Trump’s performance from the likes of Fox News host Sean Hannity (who Trump actually cited by name in the debate), Meyers focused on some of Trump’s most egregious moments, such as when he told Clinton that she’d “been fighting ISIS your entire adult life” even though the terror group only came into existence in 2013.
“I guess it’s not surprising someone had to explain to Trump when adulthood begins, since he still hasn’t reached it,” Meyers said.
