Bon Iver fans are eagerly awaiting the release of 22, A Million, the group’s first album since 2011. Berlin-based supporters received an unexpected amuse-bouche when Justin Vernon and company played a surprise gig Wednesday.

The Wisconsin indie rockers played in the courtyard of the Michelberger Hotel, a few days before Vernon’s planned appearance at the Michelberger Music Festival this weekend.

The group also posted times and places on Wednesday and Thursday for fans to show up. Those who attended the first event in Eau Claire, Wisconsin received an album-related newspaper. Events are confirmed for Melbourne, Australia; Berlin; Copenhagen, Denmark; London; Amsterdam; Paris; Brooklyn, New York; Minneapolis; Mexico City; and Los Angeles on Thursday.

Bon Iver debuted 22, A Million live last month during Wisconsin’s Eaux Claires Music & Arts Festival after teasing they’d play “a set made of NEW music.”

See some highlights from the concert below. 22, A Million, comes out Friday.
