It’s not even October, but horror director John Carpenter is already delivering some chills — this time in a new music video for “Utopian Façade,” one of the tracks from his latest studio album, Lost Themes II.
The video, directed by Gavin Hignight and Ben Verhulst, tells the story of android encountering her worst nightmare as she runs into zombies and some kind of mutated swamp monsters in a futuristic forest.
“We were instantly haunted upon hearing ‘Utopian Façade,'” Hignight said in a statement. “It conjured images of jagged trees, dark woods, and things that go bump in the night.”
The duo used the music video they’d directed for “Night,” a track on Carpenter’s previous album, as a jumping-off point. “Our goal was to explore these feelings combined with the visuals of the electronic synth driven world established in the ‘Night’ video,” Hignight said. “An android’s nightmare is what culminated.”
Carpenter kicks off the U.K. leg of his tour Oct. 20. See those dates here, and watch the video above.
