Kim Kardashian is no longer “on the fence” when it comes the presidential election: the reality television star says she’ll cast her ballot for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton instead of Republican candidate Donald Trump. “I’m with her,” Kardashian wrote.
Kardashian made the announcement on Saturday via her website, one day after she was quoted as saying a conversation with Caitlyn Jenner had her reconsidering her vote.
“At first I thought, ‘Oh my god, I’m so Hillary,’ but I had a long political call with Caitlyn last night about why she’s voting Trump. I’m on the fence,” she purportedly said in an interview with Wonderland Magazine, a portion of which was published by The Evening Standard. The quote was not in the published profile of Kardashian.
On Saturday, Kardashian confirmed she had made the comment. “A ‘quote’ of mine was released yesterday causing my phone to blow up by friends, family and even both candidates’ camps, so I want to explain the context in which I said I was ‘on the fence’ about my vote,” she wrote.
According to Kardashian, she initially wasn’t even set on voting in the presidential election on Nov. 8, because she didn’t want to “vote blindly.” Upon reflection, however, she decided to participate in the democratic process and sought out political conversations with her family and friends.
“I believe we owe it to ourselves, and to each other, to ask questions,” she wrote. “To do our research so that we vote for the candidate who represents our own beliefs. We should start at a place of openness, receptiveness and honesty, and we should talk to those we love, trust and respect.”
Kardashian added that she had a “long conversation” with Jenner, who is a longtime Republican and has previously expressed support for Trump. The former Olympian encouraged Kardashian to research both candidates and then vote for the person whose “policies aligned with the things that matter most to me.”
“I thought about the things that are so important to me that they outweigh everything else, such as gun control and protecting women’s rights to safe and legal abortion,” Kardashian wrote. “I found that without a doubt, I stand with Hillary. I’m with her. I believe Hillary will best represent our country and is the most qualified for the job.”
But while Kardashian is supporting Clinton, she says she won’t demonize Trump devotees. “I would never judge anyone based on their political or religious beliefs. I believe that both candidates have the intention of making the country a safer and stronger place for every American, they just have different ideas about how we get there,” she wrote.
This is the second time Kardashian has come out in public support of Clinton. Last year, she posted a selfie with husband Kanye West and Clinton. “I got my selfie!!! I really loved hearing her speak & hearing her goals for our country!” Kardashian wrote, adding the hashtag #HillaryForPresident.
