The Exorcist stars reveal how the show kept the original film’s spirit

Posted on

Fox’s upcoming The Exorcist series won’t stray too far from the 1973 horror flick of the same name, its stars recently revealed to EW.

“We’re carrying the spirit of the iconic motion picture forward,” Alan Ruck in a video for EW that features he and the other stars of the show attempting to summarize the new series using six randomly selected words.

In fact, even the premise remains pretty much the same. “Two heroic priests confront a bizarre battle against a surreal force,” explains Alfonso Herrera, who plays the force-battling Father Tomas Ortega. Ben Daniels, who plays the other half of the priestly duo, Father Marcus Keane, adds, “It’s about the manipulation of a young girl by forces of evil, which can only lead to heartbreak.”

Watch the video above for more from the cast, including Geena Davis, as well as a potentially big spoiler.

The Exorcist premieres Friday at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
