Hamilton's America: Documentary trailer takes viewers inside hit musical

Posted on

Get ready to add more fuel to your Hamilton FOMO because the first trailer for PBS’ documentary about the musical is here.

Hamilton’s America, which will have its world premiere at New York Film Festival, will take viewers behind the scenes of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hip-hop infused musical about the founding father without a father and cover the two years leading up to opening night. As seen in the new trailer, the documentary will feature interviews with Miranda himself, Hamilton director Thomas Kail, President Barack Obama, Jimmy Fallon, and many more.

“When you told us, ‘I’m going to do a rap about Alexander Hamilton,’ we said, ‘Well, good luck with that,'” Obama tells a laughing Miranda in the clip. Later on, The Tonight Show host says, “Hamilton is somewhere going, ‘Thank you.'”

In June, Hamilton took home 11 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and acting awards for former cast members Leslie Odom Jr. (Aaron Burr), Daveed Diggs (Thomas Jefferson/Marquis de Lafayette), and Renée Elise Goldsberry (Angelica Schuyler).

Hamilton’s America, part of PBS’ Great Performances series, will dbut Friday Oct. 21 at 9 p.m. ET.
