This Is Us: BingeWorthy reviews drama

Posted on

NBC

NBC’s new drama This Is Us looks to get the waterworks flowing immediately, as it focuses on a couple (Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore) dealing with a miscarriage, a middling actor (Justin Hartley), a woman (Chrissy Metz) and her life-long fight with her weight, and a successful businessman (Sterling K. Brown) who tracks down his biological father.

But is one of fall’s most anticipated shows Bingeworthy? Hosts Jessica Shaw and Touré definitely think so.

“This is a great show,” Touré says. “It is the feels, it is emotional, these characters are relatable. Within minutes, I was like, ‘I like all these people.'”

He and Shaw applauded the fleshed-out characters and hard-hitting moments of the show. Both were struck by Metz’s moving and relatable moment in removing every piece of jewelry to gain a victory over the scale. “It’s those moments that are so vulnerable and so stripped down; they pierce you to your very core,” Shaw says.

Be sure to watch the very end of Tuesday night’s pilot to catch the big twist. Or don’t, if you don’t want to have the same reaction Shaw did: “I actually screamed in my bedroom, home alone, blankets over my mouth, and then I cried for 15 minutes — ugly crying.”
