Jimmy Kimmel made a joke about Bill Cosby during Sunday’s 68th annual Emmy Awards, but it was Tina Fey’s reaction to the gag that stole the show.
As the ceremony returned from a commercial break, the show’s announcer “invited” Cosby to the stage. The camera cut to the audience, where Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Ellie Kemper and Fey, the show’s creator, reacted to the news. Fey’s response was captured online and soon went viral.
“Don’t worry, he’s not really here,” Kimmel said after the joke. “I just wanted to see what you guys would do.”
Cosby has been accused of sexual assault by more than 50 women; he’s set to stand trial next year in a sexual assault case, on charges he allegedly drugged and molested a woman at his Pennsylvania home in 2004.
