After Sterling K. Brown won an Emmy for his portrayal of lawyer Chris Darden in American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson, Darden’s daughter, Jenee, called the win “much deserved.”

“I’m so nervous and I’m not even up for an Emmy,” she wrote on Twitter prior to Brown’s win. Afterwards, she followed up, “I am in tears. Congrats to Sterling K. Brown! Much deserved.”

She added in a separate tweet, “Sarah Paulson and Sterling K. Brown’s performances humanized my dad & Marcia Clark. I’m proud & happy for them.” (Paulson won for playing Clark.)

She also congratulated Courtney B. Vance, who won an Emmy for his portrayal of Johnnie Cochran. “Yes Courtney B. Vance,” she tweeted. “Yes! Shout out your woman Courtney B. Vance!!”

Back in February, Jenee wrote about the show, Brown’s performance, and her father in a blog post to Cocoa Fly. “I decided to watch the series after reading a few interviews with actor Sterling K. Brown, who plays my father. Of course I was concerned about how Brown would represent my father. My father declined to meet him, but it looks like he did his homework so far.”

She added, “He spoke in an interview about having more compassion for my father being a proud black man and having to prosecute a successful black man. Mind you, my father did this on television. I hope that is conveyed accurately in the series.”
