Stephen Colbert joins Save Nelly with Hot in Herre parody

Nelly’s recent announcement that he is in massive debt with the IRS has received a lot of attention — and Stephen Colbert has noticed.

Nelly fans are jumping in to do what they can to help the Save Nelly campaign, mostly by streaming his hit single “Hot in Herre” over and over again. After all, if a radio station could play “Hot in Herre” on loop for an entire weekend back in 2014, so can fans. On Tuesday night, Colbert joined in, first by suggesting Nelly’s music be overlaid with a viral clip such as Hillary Clinton faltering from pneumonia, and then by singing his own Nelly parody, “Debt in Here.”

“Just pay your monthly debt, so your accounts don’t close,” Colbert sang. Jon Baptiste and the rest of his band joined in, singing, “Being frugal is so hot, you’re gonna pay your bills off.”
