Gina Torres has already found her first post Suits gig. The actress is joining season 2 of ABC’s The Catch as a recurring guest star in a mysterious role, EW has learned.
“I will be adding a little chaos, adding a little mayhem, and keeping the leads on their toes,” Torres tells EW. “She’s a fun character and I was so happy to hear where [executive producer] Allan Heinberg wanted to go with her and how she’s a bit of a foil and absolutely an equal in every way in terms of matching wits and skill set with Benjamin [Peter Krause] and Alice [Mireille Enos].”
Although Torres’ new character on the Shondaland drama means well, she will definitely butt heads with some of the main characters, namely Alice. “I can say that I have Benjamin’s best interests at heart and Alice doesn’t care for me very much right away,” she says. “But Rhys [John Simm], on the other hand, can see a place for me in his life.”
The veteran actress recently wrapped up her five-and-a-half season run on the USA Network legal drama Suits, where she played the elegantly fierce Jessica Pearson. Torres was drawn to this character on The Catch because of how different she was from Jessica.
“She’s not in the world of high-powered money. She’s not that elite [like Jessica]. With this new character, I feel like I’m going back to my roots a little bit in terms of the rough and tumble. But, she’s tough. People love it when I play tough, so they have that in common,” she says. “The differences between this new character and Jessica are pronounced enough that it really piqued my interest. I get to use other crayons in my box and use a little bit more humor and whimsy.”

After leaving Toronto, where Suits films, for the last time, Torres was worried about what her next move would be, and she feels blessed that she received a call from the show so soon after her last job ended. “To have gotten this phone call shortly after I left Toronto was like manna from heaven, and the fact that it came from where it came and that they were looking for me, I can’t express to you how special that is and how truly grateful I am for this opportunity.”
Torres is joining previously announced guest star T.R. Knight (Grey’s Anatomy).
The Catch will return winter 2017 on ABC.
