Released Wednesday, the latest preview for the upcoming animated flick takes an emotional turn. In the midst of their quest to save their fellow dolls from the evil, monstrous Bergen, grouchy survivalist Branch pauses to brighten the spirits of his usually upbeat companion, Poppy, and help her rediscover her “True Colors.”
The trailer also features interviews with Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick, who voice Branch and Poppy in the film. The stars lend backstory to their characters, and speak about why music is so pivotal to the plotline.
“The Bergens gather the trolls that they’ve caught, and it’s the music that rescues them,” Timberlake says. Adds Kendrick: “I think music adds so much to animation. I just think they belong together.”
Timberlake, who served as Trolls‘ executive music producer, recently revealed the movie’s star-studded soundtrack, including his own smash single “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” plus songs from Kendrick, Ariana Grande, and costars Gwen Stefani, Zooey Deschanel, and James Corden.
“A lot of the feedback from the footage we showed in Hall H [at San Diego Comic-Con] was like, “Oh wait that looks really good!” I think that’s kind of the reaction we had, where it was like “They’re making a trolls movie? What’s that gonna be? Like really corporate?'” Kendrick told EW in August of why she took the part. “Then so much creativity got put into this, and it’s so unique. The animation is like nothing I’ve seen before.”
Trolls hits theaters Nov. 4. Watch the second trailer above.
