Bridget Jones has done a lot of growing up in the 12 years since we last saw her, but that doesn’t mean she has it all figured out.

“Well, she’s a little bit older, she’s matured, professionally she’s more accomplished,” Renée Zellweger tells Jess Cagle, the Editorial Director of PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly, in this week’s PEOPLE cover story.

“She’s now producing a serious news chat show,” the actress, 47, says, noting that Bridget has “accomplished some of the things that she thought were going to make her life fit her ideal.”

Yet Bridget “still doesn’t quite have it all together,” said the actress. That’s for sure: In Bridget Jones’s Baby, the singleton finds herself pregnant – and isn’t sure whether the dad is her old flame Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) or her billionaire one-night stand, Jack Qwant (Patrick Dempsey).

While “she’s probably less naive,” the actress says, Bridget is “no less hopelessly romantic and vulnerable.”

All in all, Zellweger sums up, “She’s still perfectly imperfect.”
