It’s open season on mermaid dreams, millennial angst, modern dating rituals, and more in Iliza Shlesinger’s new Netflix comedy special Confirmed Kills, and EW has an exclusive first look at the trailer.

Debuting Sept. 23, Shlesinger’s third standup special finds the Last Comic Standing winner sharpening and deepening her comedy, which often dissects what she calls “girl behavior” with a combination of love and wry bemusement.

“I don’t want to hear anymore women talk about how they want to be mermaids,” Shlesinger says in the trailer. “I don’t care what the Little Mermaid told us, because she was a liar and a hoarder!”

For Shlesinger, who offers plenty of real talk for women and men alike, young and old, Confirmed Kills reflects her evolution as a performer and a person.

“I felt a sense of obligation as a comedian who’s growing and as a woman to not just make fun of women, but to really take the side of a woman and do some sort of digestible feminism,” the 33-year-old comic tells EW in a recent phone interview while on the road in Canada. “I didn’t want to exclude men — I think men like my comedy because it’s all-inclusive — and I really wanted to say something smart. Of course it’s about making people laugh, but I have this incredible platform to stand up for people and to say something intelligent.”

EW can also exclusively reveal that Confirmed Kills will serve as a launch pad for Shlesinger’s first solo theater tour this fall, which shares its provocative name with the Netflix special.

It bears mentioning that the title Confirmed Kills is taken from a joke about generational identity and legacy, which appears in part in the trailer. But it also speaks to Shlesinger’s ambitions as a comedian.

“It has to do with the idea that in comedy, you have to ‘kill,'” Shlesinger said. “My goal is to grow as a comic and always do a great job, and I’ve got such supportive fans. But I come to play, and I come to destroy.”

She laughed and added, “I take my job very seriously, I take my fans’ time very seriously. And when I’m on that stage, I’m out for blood, if blood can be a funny thing.”

Iliza Shlesinger: Confirmed Kills premieres Sept. 23 on Netflix, and the namesake tour kicks off Nov. 4 in Milwaukee. Watch the trailer above, see a poster below, and find tour info at iliza.com.
