Ben Affleck movie Live By Night gets trailer

Posted on

Warner Bros

Ben Affleck is back in Boston, but he’s not a wise-cracking Southie resident or a bank robber. He’s a mobster.

The first trailer arrived Thursday for Live By Night, Affleck’s next directorial effort. Based on Dennis Lehane’s novel of the same name, the movie also stars Affleck as Joe Coughlin, the son of the Boston Police Superintendent (Brendan Gleeson) who’s a soldier-turned-gangster in the middle of Prohibition. His ascent through organized crime traverses Boston, Tampa, Florida, and Cuba. It begins to crash once he angers an entrenched boss.

In addition to directing, Affleck penned the screenplay for the drama that also stars Elle Fanning, Chris Messina, Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana, and Chris Cooper. The Warner Bros. film opens wide Jan. 13, 2017.
