Firefly: Back From The Black book: If Serenity crew returned to Earth

Posted on

The Firefly crew saw many planets, but never flew Serenity to Earth-That-Was. Now, a new picture book wonders how they might have fit in if they had — even Wash.

Firefly: Back From the Black collects a shiny series of illustrated vignettes from artist and author Joey Spiotto (Alien Next Door), imagining if Mal, Jayne, River, and the rest of Joss Whedon’s space-Western misfits had touched down on Planet Earth. EW can exclusively reveal the cover and share a first look at a handful of its 70-plus illustrations.

It should come as no surprise that Jayne Cobb — with hat — tries to bring a pile of weapons through an Alliance security checkpoint or that Kaylee finds herself staring at a storefront full of pretties. Meanwhile, Shepherd Book is exasperated to find a beautiful stained-glass window in church depicting Saint Jayne.

Check out some pages below. Firefly: Back From the Black is scheduled for a July 2017 release. It can be pre-ordered here.
