Fiction met reality when Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys attended a state dinner at the White House Tuesday evening.
On FX’s critically acclaimed series The Americans, Russell and Rhys play undercover KGB spies living in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Obviously, they aren’t spies in real life, but they certainly looked the part when the couple strolled into the state dinner for Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, hosted by President Barack Obama.
Rhys, still sporting his Wine Show beard, donned a classic black tuxedo, while Russell wore a black dress with gold running down the middle. (Were they trying to blend in before planting a bug in a mail robot?)
The costars have had quite the eventful summer, and attending this political function is just the tip of the iceberg. In May, Rhys and Russell, who have been dating for over two years, welcomed their first child together, whom they named Sam.
In July, Russell and Rhys received Emmy nominations for their portrayals of Elizabeth and Philip Jennings on the FX drama. The Americans also received its first Outstanding Drama Series nomination.
The Americans returns in 2017. The first three seasons can be streamed on Amazon Prime.
