Against Me! have a new album on the way. Shape Shift With Me, their seventh studio album, is due out Sept. 16, the band announced Monday.

Along with the news, the Florida punk group also shared Shape Shift‘s lead single, a hard-edged rocker titled “333.” The collection follows Transgender Dysphoria Blues, their critically acclaimed 2014 release. It was recorded alongside Marc Jacob Hudson (Taking Back Sunday, Saves The Day).

Billed as a loose concept album, Shape Shift will center around love, an idea largely evaded in Against Me!’s previous work. “Tons of people have written about love. But while love is cliché, it’s infinitely relevant,” frontwoman Laura Jane Grace said in a statement. “For me, having always been in a punk band that was expected to be political, I never felt like I had that option to write about feelings in that way. That’s what I ended up being drawn to this time. It’s writing in a way I thought I could never write before, and not giving a s— about expectations.”

Grace, a transgender woman, also wanted to explore romance from a perspective she feels has been widely absent from the music community’s rhetoric.

“There needs to be more records about trans rights and everything like that, but feeling like I already did that, I wanted to move on to write commentary on living from a trans perspective,” she said. “I wanted to write the transgender response to the Rolling Stones’ Exile On Main St., Liz Phair’s Exile In Guyville, and the Streets’ A Grand Don’t Come For Free. All those records are relationship records. There’s been an infinite amount of records talking about what love means from a cisgender perspective. I wanted to present the trans perspective on sex, love, and heartbreak.”

Such themes are also reflective of Grace’s upcoming memoir, TRANNY: Confessions of Punk Rock’s Most Infamous Anarchist Sellout, a personal account of Grace’s life that tackles everything from sex and drugs to failed marriages and music.

Ahead of the book’s Nov. 15 release, Against Me! will headline a string of North American dates starting Sept. 14 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They’ll also make stops with Bad Religion and Dave Hause. See tour dates, as well as the Shape Shift With Me tracklist, below.
