Fred Norris/HBO

Your daily guide to the most interesting stuff happening on TV and streaming. All times Eastern.

PICK OF THE WEEKEND:

Vice Principals

HBO, Sunday, 10:30 p.m.

If you loved Eastbound & Down’s fascination with American dudes behaving badly, then you’ll probably enjoy Danny McBride and Jody Hill’s newest comedy. In Vice Principals, McBride and Walton Goggins play high school vice principals who are competing for the job of principal after the current principal, played Bill Murray, decides to retire. Series star Busy Philipps promised us that “hilarity and insanity” will ensue

TIME WARP

Stranger Things

Netflix, Friday, Streaming

Stranger Things is an homage to sic-horror movies of yesteryear that’s sure to give you your fill of scares, government conspiracies, kids with strange abilities, and, most importantly, ‘80s nostalgia. It stars Winona Ryder as a mother frantically searching for her missing son. See the first eight minutes of the series here.

THE REAL ANIMAL KINGDOM

Hello World!

Discovery, Saturday, 8 p.m.

The secret lives of animals are soundtracked to popular songs from such artists as Steven Tyler and Ellie Goulding. Man, fall TV just cannot come back soon enough, am I right?

CHRISTMAS COMES EARLY

A Perfect Christmas

Hallmark, Saturday, 9 p.m.

On the other hand, why not skip autumn and go straight to winter TV? The Hallmark Channel will air original holiday movies both today and tomorrow.

THE BOYS ARE BACK

Ballers

HBO, Sunday, 10 p.m.

Obviously, you’ll want to follow a tense and dread-filled episode of The Night Of (airing at 9 p.m.) with the second season premiere of this Entourage-esque series, which finds Spencer (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) facing off against an old foe. There definitely won’t be any tonal whiplash.
